Product Care We would like for you to enjoy your Kim Alessi jewelry for a long time! To help ensure that it’s beauty lasts, we've created a list of care tips to help you keep your Kim Alessi jewelry in good condition. - Always avoid contact with chemicals, such as hair spray and perfume, household cleansers, pool chemicals and salt or hard water. These could ruin the metals or stones; changing the color, making them more brittle, etc. You can help avoid these things by not swimming with your jewelry pieces on and by putting your jewelry on last when getting dressed. - Always remove your jewelry at night or during the day when you don't need to wear it. Exercising, swimming or doing household chores while wearing your jewelry could eventually leave a film behind, dulling the color and shine! - Wipe your jewelry pieces with a soft, clean cloth after wearing to help remove natural body oils and/or sweat residue. - Silver and gold will eventually tarnish or discolor if left out in the open air, leaving your sterling pieces black and gold pieces kind of dull. Because of this you should store your jewelry pieces in zip lock bags or in a jewelry box or jewelry case with the lid closed, particularly the silver pieces. This helps reduce the amount of tarnish and the amount of cleaning or polishing needed later. We've even been told that if you store a piece of chalk in your jewelry box, this will help eliminate some of the tarnishing process!! If you want to go the commercial route, you can buy and use anti-tarnish strips that you can place in your jewelry box. They should last a few months or more and can be found at your local jeweler’s or in jewelry supply catalogs or websites. - Do not store pearls in sealed bags, they need to breath. But do wipe them clean after wearing as they could retain body oils and eventually stain or change color.
Product Knowledge Listed below are a few descriptions, to help identify a few materials used in our collection. Vermeil: Our Vermeil is 18 karat Gold on top of Sterling Silver. Vermeil is a process which was developed in France in the mid-1700s. In the 19th century, France banned production of vermeil because the process involved the use of mercury. In the present day vermeil refers to an over plating of gold onto silver using a safe process. The result is a beautiful shiny gold surface. Sterling Silver: Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. The copper is necessary for durability and strength since 100% pure silver is too soft to hold up on its own. Silver is a wonderful neutral color trend these days, and guess what else?! Yes, you can mix it with your gold jewelry too! Gold-Filled: Also known as rolled gold, gold-filled products are made by bonding gold with a core of brass. Gold is essentially rolled around the brass core, which explains the term "rolled gold". In the U.S., gold filled items must contain 20% gold by weight. This product has 100 times more gold than gold plated product, and will last a lifetime if cared for properly. |
